Due to the HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) Privacy Act, parents of children over the age of 18, do not have legal standing to get information about their child’s health or well-being. Doctors may not speak with parents about their child’s condition, and medical facilities, such as emergency rooms, may not provide any information to you without the patient’s prior permission!
The Healthcare Proxy designation changes all this and allows the child to designate his or her parent as an agent or proxy allowing access to medical records and health care information, and to make medical decisions on his or her behalf. Students, their parents or legal guardians, are invited to contact us to make an appointment for their complimentary Healthcare Proxy and peace of mind.
